Where it came from
Army of the Damned originated as a powerful sorcery spell in the Magic: The Gathering card game, designed to represent a massive summoning of undead forces. Its inclusion in the Foundations Commander set continues its legacy as a staple of black-aligned decks, reflecting the game's long-standing tradition of necromantic themes that emphasize overwhelming graveyard interaction and board presence.
The card's design aims to provide a high-impact, late-game finisher, granting players thirteen zombie tokens upon resolution. It is a recurring reprint in various Commander products, valued by players for its ability to shift the momentum of a game through sheer numbers, and remains a hallmark of the strategic depth found within the Foundations series.
