Where it came from
Aura of Silence was first introduced in the 2001 set Invasion and was later included in the Tenth Edition core set, which served as a milestone for the game by transitioning to the modern card frame design. The card was created as a potent enchantment designed to disrupt opponents' momentum by increasing the mana cost of their artifacts and enchantments, while simultaneously offering a self-sacrificial removal effect.
The illustration for the Tenth Edition printing was created by artist Brian Snoddy, whose work is characterized by a high-fantasy, intricately detailed style. By placing the card within the core set, the designers aimed to provide players with a evergreen tool for board control, and it was generally received by the community as a reliable, if defensive, staple in white-aligned control decks.
