Where it came from
Aura of Silence was originally introduced in the 1999 set Weatherlight, designed by Richard Garfield, as part of a cycle of enchantments intended to punish players for utilizing specific card types. Its inclusion in the Commander 2015 preconstructed deck Plunder the Graves marked a significant reprint, as the card had become a staple in white-based control strategies due to its ability to both tax opponent's artifact and enchantment spells and provide a sacrificial removal effect.
The art for this specific printing features the work of artist Terese Nielsen, whose distinctive illustrative style has defined many iconic cards throughout Magic: The Gathering's history. By incorporating the card into the Commander 2015 set, Wizards of the Coast aimed to provide players with a powerful utility tool for multiplayer formats, where the ability to disrupt multiple opponents simultaneously remains highly valued and effective.
