Where it came from
Auramancer was originally introduced in the 1999 Urza's Legacy set, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a core utility creature for white decks. Its primary function—retrieving enchantments from the graveyard—established it as a staple for players focusing on enchantment-heavy strategies. The design reflects the visual language of the Urza block, where spellcasters were often depicted interacting directly with magical artifacts and mystical energies.
For the 2023 Dominaria Remastered set, this card was reprinted featuring new artwork by Anna Steinbauer. As part of a set specifically curated to revisit the history of the plane of Dominaria, this version honors the original card’s mechanics while updating the visual aesthetic to fit modern standards. The illustration maintains the classic theme of a white-aligned mage manipulating ethereal forces, grounding the card in the rich, long-standing lore of Magic: The Gathering.
