Where it came from
Auramancer was originally released as part of the Urza's Legacy expansion in 1999, but this specific version was issued as a DCI promo in 2002. It was distributed to players through the Magic: The Gathering DCI tournament infrastructure, often as a reward for participating in local store events or sanctioned tournaments to encourage community engagement during the early 2000s.
The artwork for this version was provided by Heather Hudson, whose illustrative style was a hallmark of late 90s and early 2000s Magic cards. She designed the figure to embody the 'enchantment' theme of the game, opting for a clean, ethereal aesthetic that aligned with the card's ability to recover enchantments from the graveyard, a functional design choice that made the card a staple in utility-focused white decks of the era.
