Where it came from
Aven Mimeomancer was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set. The card reflects the expansion's thematic focus on the art deco-inspired, crime-syndicate-run metropolis of New Capenna, where avian citizens often occupy roles within the city's complex social hierarchy. The design team utilized the Aven creature type to bridge the gap between the plane's high-society aesthetic and the magical utility required for the Commander format.
The artwork, illustrated by Games Workshop veteran and fantasy artist Even Amundsen, captures the Mimeomancer in an elegant, stylized pose consistent with the visual language of the set. Amundsen focused on clean lines and a sense of magical grace, intending to evoke a character who manipulates perception and form. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its flexible support capabilities, finding a steady home in bird-themed tribal decks and utility-focused builds.
