What it does
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may create a 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature token. It has "Sacrifice this token: Add colorless mana."
The ground erupted in time with the hedron's thrum, a dirge of the last days.

Where it came from
Awakening Zone was originally released in the 2010 set Rise of the Eldrazi, designed by Wizards of the Coast to emphasize the theme of otherworldly influence and resource ramp. This version, appearing as card number 281 in the New Capenna Commander set, features updated art by Nils Hamm, who brought his signature painterly style to the piece. The design aimed to illustrate the Eldrazi presence within the flavor-neutral landscape of New Capenna, blending the set's art-deco aesthetic with the Eldrazi's inherent sense of environmental corruption.
The card functions as an enchantment that provides a consistent stream of Eldrazi Spawn tokens, which players can sacrifice for mana or use as defensive blockers. Upon its reprint in this Commander-focused product, the card was received well by the community for its continued utility in green-based ramp strategies. It serves as a staple for players looking to generate incremental value, maintaining the mechanical identity established during its debut while fitting seamlessly into the multi-colored environment of the New Capenna Commander preconstructed decks.
