Where it came from
Ayula, Queen Among Bears originally appeared in the 2019 Modern Horizons set, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a nod to bear-themed tribal decks. The card was created to provide a dedicated commander for bear enthusiasts, utilizing a design philosophy that rewards players for filling their deck with specific creature types. The artwork by Magali Villeneuve captures the character’s regal and imposing presence, leaning into a fantasy aesthetic that balances the natural ferocity of a bear with a sense of nobility.
This specific iteration, numbered 876, is part of the Fallout-themed crossover release for Magic: The Gathering. As part of a series integrating the lore and visual style of the post-apocalyptic franchise, this version reinterprets the original design within the mechanical and thematic framework of the Fallout expansion. It reflects the ongoing collaborative strategy of the game to blend its established mechanics with external intellectual properties, maintaining the core identity of the creature while adapting it to the collector-focused style of the Fallout set.
