Where it came from
Ayula, Queen Among Bears was originally released in the 2019 expansion Modern Horizons for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to provide a tribal commander for bear-themed decks, a niche concept that had long been requested by the game's community. It reflects the design philosophy of creating legendary creatures that reward players for building around specific, often whimsical, creature types.
The artwork for this specific reprint, found in the 2024 Fallout Commander set, adapts the character to fit the aesthetic of the Fallout franchise. By reimagining Ayula within the post-apocalyptic context of the Wasteland, the design team aimed to bridge the gap between Magic's core mechanics and the lore of the Fallout series, offering players a thematic variant that maintains the card's mechanical function while visually honoring the crossover.
