Where it came from
Bar Entry is a card from the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion Unfinity, the fourth set in the long-running Un-series designed for casual, humor-themed play. Released as a black-bordered set intended for limited formats, it marked a significant departure from previous joke sets by integrating mechanically unique stickers and attractions into the game's broader design philosophy.
The card features artwork by illustrator Ron Spencer, whose surreal and high-contrast style has been a staple of the Magic: The Gathering franchise for decades. Designed to poke fun at the trope of gatekeeping and exclusive access common in fantasy taverns, the illustration captures a whimsical, neon-soaked aesthetic that fits the set's retro-futuristic space carnival theme.
