Where it came from
Basri Ket was introduced as a new planeswalker character in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering Core Set. The card was designed to embody a white-aligned hero from the desert plane of Amonkhet, emphasizing themes of solidarity, armor, and protection. His visual aesthetic, characterized by golden plating and crystalline motifs, was created to reflect his history as a member of the Oketra-worshipping warrior caste, balancing his martial discipline with his divine-infused powers.
This specific iteration is the promo version, distinguished by its unique alternate art from the Core Set 2021 collector series. Illustrated by Johannes Voss, the art style focuses on ethereal light and regal composition, which was widely praised by the community for its clean, high-fantasy aesthetic. It became a notable entry for collectors due to the limited distribution of promo-stamped variants in that expansion's release cycle.
