Where it came from
Basri Ket was introduced as a new Planeswalker character in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2021. Designed to represent the white mana philosophy of community and solidarity, the character was created by the Wizards of the Coast design team to provide a fresh perspective on the lore of the plane of Amonkhet. This specific version, numbered 7p, was released as a promotional card, typically distributed through retail store programs to encourage engagement with the game during the set's launch window.
The visual design of Basri Ket was executed by artist Aleksi Briclot. Briclot focused on capturing the character's lithe, athletic build and his connection to the sun-drenched aesthetic of his home plane. The illustration emphasizes his signature khopesh and his role as a tactical leader, aligning with the mechanical intent of the card to bolster creature-heavy strategies. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid, functional addition to white-aligned decks, praised for its cohesive design and thematic consistency within the broader set narrative.
