Provenance

Where it came from

Battle Screech was originally released in the Judgement expansion in 2002 before being reprinted in the Modern Horizons set in 2019. It is a white sorcery card designed to support creature-heavy strategies by providing a creature with flying and the ability to be cast from the graveyard. This design reflects the set's intent to bring older, mechanically resonant cards into the modern play environment while providing new tools for creature-based archetypes.

The original illustration was created by artist Daren Bader, who has contributed art to the game for decades. His depiction of the screeching avian creatures emphasizes the chaotic nature of a swarm, aligning with the card's mechanics of generating multiple tokens. Within the community, the card is recognized for its efficient token generation and synergy with mechanics that reward controlling multiple white creatures, maintaining a steady presence in casual and competitive formats over the years.
