Where it came from
Released in 1998 as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Unglued' expansion, B.F.M. was designed as a satirical experiment in the game's mechanics. The set itself was famously created as an April Fools' joke, allowing Wizards of the Coast to push the boundaries of card design in ways that were intentionally impractical for standard competitive play.
The card is unique for being split into two distinct physical cards, which must be played together to form a single, massive creature. Illustrated by Douglas Shuler, the design leans heavily into monster movie tropes to create a humorous, oversized presence on the tabletop. It remains a hallmark of the set's subversive and whimsical approach to game design.
