Provenance

Where it came from

The Biblioplex Tomekeeper was released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Strixhaven: School of Mages, representing the unique atmosphere of the Biblioplex, the massive library at the heart of the Strixhaven university. The card was designed to embody the diligent, magical archivists who maintain the institution's vast collection of knowledge, reflecting the set's central theme of academic pursuit and magical research.

The illustration was rendered by artist Jason Rainville, who captured the character as a stoic, ethereal figure surrounded by the floating, shifting tomes characteristic of the library's design. The artwork was widely praised for its atmospheric lighting and the way it visually integrated the card's mechanical utility—its ability to manipulate library resources—with its role as a guardian of ancient secrets.
