Where it came from
Eager Glyphmage is a card from the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Secrets of Strixhaven, a thematic expansion centered on a magical university for wizards. The card was designed as a low-cost creature to represent the school's focus on learning and spellcasting mechanics. It features the 'magecraft' ability, a keyword introduced specifically for this set to reward players for casting or copying instant and sorcery spells.
The artwork for the card was provided by veteran illustrator Svetlin Velinov, who utilized a vibrant, academic aesthetic to reflect the Silverquill college—one of the five factions within the Strixhaven plane. The design was intended to provide a functional and flavorful entry-level card for players navigating the complexities of the set's spell-heavy environment, and it remains a recognizable example of the set's unique visual identity.
