Where it came from
Blackblade Reforged first appeared as a legendary equipment card in the Dominaria set, representing the iconic sentient sword originally wielded by Dakkon Blackblade. The Brothers' War Retro Artifacts version, collector number 69z, was released in 2022 as part of a special subset that reprinted historical artifacts with a nostalgic, vintage aesthetic to celebrate Magic: The Gathering's deep lore.
The design of this specific reprint utilizes the classic card frame to evoke the feel of early nineties expansions, blending the high-fantasy weapon's storied history with a tactile, collector-focused presentation. The illustration by Christopher Rush, carried over from the original Blackblade design, remains a staple of the game's iconography, emphasizing the blade's dark, soul-consuming nature that has defined its narrative role since the early days of the multiverse.
