Blackblade Reforged

Blackblade Reforged was introduced to the Magic: The Gathering trading card game within the Commander Legends set, released in 2020. This equipment card is a thematic homage to the legendary artifact known as the Blackblade, a sentient sword from the game's deep lore that draws its power from the souls of those it has slain. Its inclusion in Commander Legends served to provide players with a versatile tool for the popular Commander format, emphasizing the game's focus on iconic weapons and artifacts that scale in power throughout a match.

The art for this specific printing was rendered by Igor Kieryluk, whose design aesthetic emphasizes the weapon's dark, crystalline texture and predatory nature. The card mechanics were designed to evoke the blade's growth alongside its wielder, allowing players to equip it to their commander to gain significant buffs based on the number of lands they control. Upon its release, it was well-received by players seeking cost-effective equipment that maintains relevance in the late stages of a game, solidifying its place as a staple in various green-black and multi-color deck builds.
