Where it came from
The Blink card, numbered 23, belongs to the Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set released by Fleer/SkyBox in 1996. This set was specifically designed as an introductory product to simplify the learning curve for the Marvel OverPower collectible card game. By providing pre-constructed decks and simplified front-facing cards, the Jumpstart series aimed to capture a wider audience of comic fans who found the base game's mechanics intimidating.
The artwork features Blink, a mutant with the power of teleportation who gained significant popularity following her sacrificial role in the 'Age of Apocalypse' storyline. The design follows the bold, high-contrast aesthetic typical of mid-nineties Marvel trading cards, utilizing character art that emphasizes her distinct energy-based powers. While the Jumpstart set was marketed as a gateway to competitive play, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of the era who appreciate the thematic cohesion of the X-Men's darker narrative arcs from that period.
