Where it came from
Blink is a featured front card from the Jumpstart 2022 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in December 2022. This set was designed as a standalone, play-as-you-go experience that emphasizes accessibility and replayability, allowing players to shuffle two packs together to create a functional deck immediately. The front cards act as identifiers for the theme of each pack, utilizing a distinct anime-inspired art style to distinguish these curated archetypes from standard set releases.
The art for the Blink front card was crafted by illustrator Magali Villeneuve, a prominent figure in the Magic: The Gathering artistic community known for her ethereal and character-focused aesthetic. Her design for this card captures the essence of the 'Blink' theme—centered on the recurring flicker effect of exiling and returning creatures to the battlefield—by depicting a figure in a state of rapid, magical transition. The set and its unique art treatment were well-received for bridging the gap between casual playability and high-quality, collectible illustration.
