Bog Wraith

Bog Wraith was originally released in the 1994 Magic: The Gathering set Legends, designed by Richard Garfield to introduce multi-colored spells and legendary creatures to the game. The 30th Anniversary Edition, released in 2022, was a commemorative limited-run printing that utilized the classic card frames and original artwork by Quinton Hoover to honor the game's early aesthetic. This version was created as a high-end collector's item to celebrate three decades of the franchise, though it was produced with a distinct back design to differentiate it from tournament-legal cards.

Quinton Hoover, a foundational artist for early Magic: The Gathering, provided the illustrative work for the Bog Wraith, focusing on a haunting, ethereal style that defined the dark fantasy tone of the era. His design for the creature captures the swamp-dwelling nature of the card, emphasizing the macabre atmosphere that early players associated with the black mana color identity. The reception of the 30th Anniversary Edition among the broader community was mixed, often serving as a focal point for debates regarding nostalgia versus the modernization of trading card game collectibility.
