Bojuka Bog first appeared in the Worldwake expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in early 2010. It was designed as a utility land with a powerful, specialized effect: exiling a player's graveyard upon entering the battlefield. This design reflected the set's focus on land-based mechanics and provided a necessary, accessible countermeasure for graveyard-dependent strategies that were prevalent in the game's competitive formats at the time.

The card’s visual identity was brought to life by illustrator Véronique Meignaud, whose evocative, ethereal style helped define the aesthetic of Zendikar’s dangerous landscapes. The design depicts the titular bog as a grim, swampy expanse, effectively communicating its role as a site of rot and finality. Over the years, the card has become a staple of the Commander format, recognized for its simple yet impactful ability to reset an opponent's resources.
