Provenance

Where it came from

Bond Beetle was introduced in the Magic 2013 core set, released in July 2012. As a common creature card, it was designed primarily to support the set's Limited environment by providing an efficient, low-cost creature that offered immediate board presence through its enter-the-battlefield ability. It reflects the design philosophy of the era, which prioritized functional, modular creatures that could bridge the gap between early-game utility and late-game synergy.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Dave Kendall. Kendall utilized a dark, textured aesthetic to capture the insectoid nature of the creature, emphasizing its armor-like carapace. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its simplicity and effectiveness in green creature-based strategies, particularly in Draft and Sealed formats where its ability to buff another creature while providing a body was highly valued.
