Bone Harvest

Bone Harvest was released in 1996 as part of the Mirage expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed as the first set in a new design philosophy that emphasized creature-based combat and graveyard interaction, Mirage sought to offer a more coherent world-building experience. Bone Harvest served as a quintessential utility card for the set, allowing players to recover creatures from their graveyard to their library, which reinforced the set's focus on long-term resource management.

The artwork was provided by Greg Simanson, whose contribution captures the grim, macabre aesthetic associated with black-aligned magic in the early years of the game. Simanson’s illustration depicts the gathering of skeletal remains, a visual literalization of the card's function that was consistent with the dark, gothic fantasy themes prevalent in 1990s trading card art.
