Where it came from
Borrowed Time debuted as part of the Innistrad: Double Feature set, a unique release from Wizards of the Coast that combined cards from the 2021 sets Innistrad: Midnight Hunt and Innistrad: Crimson Vow. The set was conceived as a stylistic celebration of classic gothic horror cinema, distinguished by its monochromatic, silver-screen art treatment that strips away traditional color palettes to emphasize high-contrast shadows and textures.
The card itself features illustration by Billy Christian, who captures the ethereal and unsettling nature of the spell. By framing the art in a stark black-and-white aesthetic, the design team aimed to evoke the moody, atmospheric tension of mid-century horror films. The card has been well-regarded by players for its versatile mechanical utility as a removal enchantment, while collectors often favor the Double Feature variant for its distinct, film-noir appearance.
