Where it came from
Boss's Chauffeur was released as part of the New Capenna Commander set in 2022, an expansion centered on a 1920s-inspired, Art Deco metropolis ruled by five demon-led crime families. The card reflects the set's overarching theme of organized crime, wealth, and power, specifically highlighting the opulent, gritty aesthetic of the Cabaretti faction. It was designed to function as a synergistic piece for white-aligned token strategies, rewarding players for wide board states through its ability to scale based on the number of permanents under their control.
The visual design of the card emphasizes the cinematic tropes of the era, featuring a stylish, chauffeured vehicle that embodies the high-status life of New Capenna’s elite. The illustration focuses on the clean, geometric lines synonymous with the Art Deco movement, providing a grounded look at the life of the upper class within the city's complex social hierarchy. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by commander players for its role in attrition-based strategies, where its death trigger provides a reliable way to maintain board presence during board wipes.
