Where it came from
Master of Ceremonies was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around a 1920s-inspired, Art Deco metropolis controlled by organized crime families. This specific card was distributed as a promotional foil version, utilizing the set's signature aesthetic which drew heavily on noir sensibilities, jazz-age decadence, and vertical city architecture.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who captured the character’s commanding presence through bold lighting and sharp, stylized geometry characteristic of the set's visual identity. As a 'group hug' style card that incentivizes interaction, it was designed to reward players for political maneuvering and table-talk, and it has since been received as a staple in Commander decks focused on social dynamics.
