Provenance

Where it came from

Braingeyser was originally released as part of the Alpha set in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield for the burgeoning Magic: The Gathering card game. As one of the earliest examples of card advantage in the game, the card allowed players to draw a number of cards equal to the amount of mana spent, cementing its status as a powerful and iconic staple in the history of the blue color identity.

The 30th Anniversary Edition, which includes this version of the card, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 to commemorate three decades of the game. While the set utilizes the original artwork by Mark Poole—a foundational artist whose distinct style helped define the game's early visual language—these cards are produced with a non-tournament-legal back, serving as a collectible tribute to the game's heritage rather than an expansion for competitive play.
