Where it came from
Brass Herald was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set was notable for being the first designed specifically for the Commander format, featuring a draftable experience that drew heavily from the game's deep lore and diverse creature types. The card was created to serve as a supportive artifact creature, providing a way for players to dig through their libraries for specific creature types, thereby reinforcing tribal deck themes.
The art for the card was created by artist Titus Lunter, who focused on a mechanical, ornate aesthetic that complements the brass-themed name. Lunter’s design emphasizes the heraldic nature of the construct, giving it a regal yet functional appearance suitable for an artifact creature. Upon release, the card was received as a solid utility piece for Commander enthusiasts, particularly those building decks centered around specific, less-supported creature tribes.
