Where it came from
Brass's Bounty was released as a rare promo card for the Rivals of Ixalan set, which debuted in early 2018. The card is part of the broader Ixalan block, a Magic: The Gathering expansion centered on a high-adventure, exploration-themed plane inhabited by factions including pirate crews, conquistadors, and dinosaur-riding warriors. Its design reflects the set's treasure-focused mechanics, rewarding players with a massive influx of gold tokens to represent the spoils of a sea voyage.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's vibrant, sun-drenched aesthetic to depict the glistening hoard of the pirate queen Admiral Beckett Brass. The composition emphasizes the opulence and scale of the bounty, consistent with the set's art direction which prioritized thematic immersion into the lore of the Brazen Coalition.
