Provenance

Where it came from

Brawn was originally printed in the 2002 Judgment expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed to introduce the incarnation cycle. These creatures were intended to reward players for filling their graveyards, providing passive benefits from the graveyard that fundamentally changed how players interacted with death and resource management in the game.

The version from the March of the Machine Commander set is a thematic reprint that retains Matt Cavotta’s original illustration. Cavotta, a veteran artist for the game, crafted the art to embody the raw, visceral power of the incarnation, using a muscular, elemental aesthetic that effectively communicated the card's function of granting trample to the player's creatures.
