Where it came from
Brokkos, Apex of Forever was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths. Designed to highlight the set's central mutate mechanic, the card represents the apex predators of a plane defined by rapid, forced evolution and monstrous biology. The card was conceptualized to serve as a versatile commander, allowing players to bridge the gap between graveyard strategies and the unique stacking interactions of the mutate ability.
The card’s striking visual identity was crafted by illustrator Greg Rutkowski. His design emphasizes the creature's chimera-like nature, blending serpentine and predatory features to convey a sense of ancient, relentless vitality. Upon release, the card was well-received by the commander community for its recursive utility, which allows players to cast it from the graveyard repeatedly, cementing its place as a staple for Sultai-aligned decks.
