Provenance

Where it came from

The Burnished Hart was originally printed in the Commander 2015 set, designed by Wizards of the Coast to support the multiplayer Commander format. The card serves as a color-agnostic mana-ramp tool, specifically engineered to allow decks lacking green-based ramp to search their libraries for basic lands. Its inclusion reflects the design philosophy of providing universal utility cards that balance the power dynamics between different color identities in long-form games.

The illustration by Daniel Ljunggren features the titular hart with a distinct metallic, burnished finish, emphasizing its artificial and mechanical nature within the game's lore. Ljunggren’s approach emphasizes a sense of stoic durability, aligning the card with its functional role as a sturdy, reusable sacrifice engine. Upon its release, the card was widely received as a staple for deck-builders due to its reliability and accessibility across various playstyles.
