Where it came from
Call for Unity was released in 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set on the plane of Kaladesh, a world defined by its brilliant inventors and magical energy known as Aether, the card represents the growing political unrest and the spirit of revolution against the oppressive Consulate. Mechanically, the card serves as a payoff for the set's go-wide creature strategies, rewarding players for assembling a team of allies.
The illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who depicted a stirring scene of camaraderie and mobilization. In the context of the game's narrative, the image captures a pivotal moment where various factions unite under a common cause. Critics and players noted the card's visual alignment with the set's themes of industrial artifice and collective defiance, marking it as a quintessential example of the world-building style established during the Kaladesh block.
