Carth the Lion // Carth the Lion

Carth the Lion was originally printed as a legendary creature in the Modern Horizons 2 expansion, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. This specific card belongs to the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series, a collection of promotional cards designed to showcase the high-fantasy illustrations commissioned for the set. These cards feature an extended-art frame on the front and a facsimile signature of the artist on the back, serving as a high-quality collectible for fans of the game's aesthetic and lore.

The artwork for this piece was created by illustrator Randy Vargas, who is known for his dynamic and vibrant style in contemporary fantasy art. Vargas aimed to capture the rugged, commanding nature of Carth, a Planeswalker ally from the Dominaria plane, emphasizing his battle-worn armor and authoritative presence. Within the community, the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series was well-received for providing players and collectors with an accessible way to appreciate the individual illustrations that drive the visual identity of the Magic: The Gathering card game.
