Cat

The 'Cat' card, specifically the version designated as collector number 28 from the Secret Lair Drop series, serves as a whimsical showcase of Magic: The Gathering's long-standing tradition of anthropomorphic creature design. Released as part of a curated 'drop'—a limited-edition, direct-to-consumer product line introduced by Wizards of the Coast in late 2019—this specific card emphasizes stylized, artistic interpretations of the game's creature types. These drops were designed to offer players and collectors unique aesthetic alternatives to standard-set cards, often collaborating with prominent artists to create distinct visual identities.

This particular card is notable for its departure from traditional fantasy realism, leaning into a vibrant, illustrative style that defined the visual direction of this specific Secret Lair collection. By moving away from the conventional art styles found in core expansions, the design team sought to capture a more contemporary, collectible feel that would appeal to fans of limited-run merchandise. The release was received as a milestone in the game's move toward highly specialized, collectible card variations, cementing the Secret Lair series as a staple for those interested in the artistic evolution of the trading card medium.
