Where it came from
The Cat token, identified as collector number 16 in the Amonkhet set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in April 2017. It was designed to support the set's specific mechanics, which focus on Egyptian-inspired themes of trial, servitude, and divinity. As a token card, it represents creatures summoned into play by other spells or permanents rather than being included in a player's starting deck.
The artwork for this token was created by Greg Staples, whose illustrative style emphasizes the stylized, golden-hued aesthetic pervasive in the Amonkhet block. The design depicts a sleek, feline guardian adorned with the regalia characteristic of the plane's inhabitants. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its thematic consistency and its practical utility in gameplay involving token-generating cards.
