Cenn's Tactician

Cenn's Tactician was released as part of the DCI Promos set, a collection of cards distributed by Wizards of the Coast to support the Organized Play community. This specific version, marked as collector number 14, served as a participation or prize card for players attending sanctioned Magic: The Gathering events during the Shadowmoor block era. These promotional cards were designed to incentivize local game store attendance and reward regular tournament participation, often featuring unique art that distinguished them from the standard set releases.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most iconic illustrators in the game's early history. His design for Cenn's Tactician leans into the Kithkin aesthetic established in the Lorwyn and Shadowmoor sets, focusing on the tactical, communal nature of the tribe. By the time this promotional variant was issued, Kithkin had become a central focus for competitive white-aligned decks, and the artwork's emphasis on formation and camaraderie was widely appreciated by players for capturing the card's mechanical utility in protecting smaller creatures.
