Boomerang

Boomerang was originally released in the base set for Magic: The Gathering in 1993, representing the quintessential blue spell for returning permanents to a player's hand. As the game evolved, Wizards of the Coast introduced the DCI Promos, a series of cards distributed through the Duelists' Convocation International organized play program. These promotional versions were designed to reward players for participating in sanctioned tournaments, often featuring unique frame treatments or promotional symbols to distinguish them from standard expansions.

This specific promotional version of Boomerang, bearing the collector number 4, was illustrated by Jesper Myrfors, one of the game's original art directors. Myrfors aimed for a surreal, minimalist aesthetic that became a hallmark of the early Magic era. The card was well-received by the competitive community for its versatility as both a defensive tool and a way to disrupt an opponent's tempo, securing its status as a staple utility card throughout the game's formative years.
