Where it came from
Bird Gets the Worm is a card from the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion Unfinity. This set was designed by Wizards of the Coast as the fourth installment in their 'Un-' series, which focuses on humor, unconventional mechanics, and silver-bordered or uniquely stamped cards that operate outside the standard tournament rules. The set was created to blend science fiction aesthetics with the zany, rule-breaking traditions established by earlier sets like Unglued and Unhinged.
The card was illustrated by David Sladek, who contributed to the set's retro-futuristic, space-carnival visual theme. In the context of gameplay, the card leans into the set's preoccupation with 'acorn' mechanics, which prioritize fun and interaction over strict competitive balance. It was received as a lighthearted addition to the set, aimed primarily at casual players who enjoy flavor-heavy cards that challenge the traditional constraints of the game.
