Where it came from
Chain Lightning was originally printed in the Legends expansion in 1994, quickly establishing itself as a staple of red aggressive decks in the early Magic: The Gathering competitive scene. Its ability to create a recursive damage loop between players made it a tactical favorite for those looking to capitalize on high-tempo, burn-heavy strategies.
This specific iteration from the Secret Lair Drop series features artwork by Nils Hamm, who reimagined the classic spell with a more modern, ethereal aesthetic. The release was part of a broader initiative to showcase diverse artistic interpretations of iconic cards, and it was generally well-received by collectors who value the integration of distinct visual styles into the game’s historical card pool.
