Provenance

Where it came from

The Citizen token was released in 2018 as part of the Ultimate Masters set, a high-end product designed to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering by featuring iconic cards and premium art. Tokens serve a utilitarian purpose in the game, representing creatures created by various card effects, and this particular design was commissioned to provide a polished, unified aesthetic for the set's token suite.

The artwork for the Citizen token was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work is frequently featured across Magic: The Gathering. The design focuses on a sturdy, relatable humanoid figure, aligning with the generic nature of the 'Citizen' creature type. It was well-received by the player base for its clean, atmospheric rendering that fits comfortably within the game's expansive visual identity.
