City's Blessing

City's Blessing originated as a key card in the Ixalan expansion of Magic: The Gathering, released in 2018. It was designed to represent the 'Ascend' mechanic, a thematic centerpiece of the set that allowed players to achieve a state of permanent favor from the city of Orazca once they controlled ten or more permanents. The card acts as a mechanical bridge, granting the player a persistent buff that reinforces the set's focus on the exploration and conquest of a mythical jungle civilization.

The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, whose artwork depicts the ethereal, glowing symbols of the Golden City manifesting around an adventurer. By including it in 'The List'—a rotating collection of cards curated by Wizards of the Coast for inclusion in Set Boosters—the publishers sought to provide players with reprints of notable utility cards that capture the distinct flavor of previous sets, ensuring that mechanics like Ascend remain accessible in contemporary gameplay contexts.
