Clever Impersonator

Clever Impersonator was originally introduced in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Khans of Tarkir, designed as a versatile blue clone effect that could enter the battlefield as any nonland permanent. This specific version was released as part of a Secret Lair drop, a premium product line initiated by Wizards of the Coast in 2019 that curates specialized, artist-driven reprints of existing cards. These drops are typically sold through limited-time, direct-to-consumer windows, emphasizing unique visual styles that depart from the traditional aesthetic of the game.

The art for this iteration of Clever Impersonator highlights the shift toward stylized, experimental illustration that defines the Secret Lair series. By providing a fresh visual interpretation of the shapeshifter theme, the card appeals to both competitive players looking for utility and collectors who value thematic consistency within a specific artistic series. It stands as an example of how the game's mechanics are frequently revisited to offer players new ways to express their personal style on the tabletop.
