Clown Car

Clown Car was introduced in the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2022. As part of the 'The List' selection and a key component of the set's Un-mechanical design philosophy, the card was created to lean into the whimsical, carnival-themed aesthetic that defines the Un-sets. It serves as a parody of traditional vehicle mechanics, utilizing the chaotic, randomized nature of dice rolling to determine how many 'clowns'—represented by creature tokens—the vehicle can transport into play.

The card was illustrated by Titus Lunter, who captured the absurd visual of a tiny, brightly colored automobile bursting with theatrical performers. The design emphasizes the 'Un' series' penchant for blending complex game rules with lighthearted humor, resulting in a card that is mechanically distinct from the standard legal sets. While intended primarily for casual play and draft environments, it remains a notable example of the creative freedom afforded to designers when working outside the bounds of competitive tournament standards.
