Where it came from
Clowning Around is a white creature token card featured in the Unfinity set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. As part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Un-' series, the card plays into the set’s whimsical circus and carnival theme, designed to facilitate mechanics that lean into chaotic, humor-focused gameplay. The card art, rendered by artist Jason Rainville, captures the surreal and colorful aesthetic characteristic of the space-themed carnival depicted throughout the expansion.
The design of Clowning Around reflects the set's intent to marry traditional card game mechanics with the improvisational spirit of a retro-futuristic funhouse. It was received as a lighthearted addition to the game's broader multiverse, providing players with a thematic creature token. By emphasizing the visual spectacle of the carnival, the card serves as a centerpiece for the set's unique identity, balancing mechanical utility with the vibrant illustrative style that defines the modern Un-set experience.
