Where it came from
Commune with Dinosaurs was first introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the Ixalan expansion, designed to support tribal-themed deck construction by allowing players to dig through their library for prehistoric creatures. The card represents the set's core exploration of a mesozoic-inspired plane, where dinosaurs act as the dominant apex predators in a lush, ancient environment.
The Foundations Jumpstart iteration, cataloged as number 647, serves as an accessible entry point for newer players or those participating in the Jumpstart limited format. The illustration emphasizes the connection between the prehistoric inhabitants and the natural world, maintaining the visual language established by earlier artists who sought to evoke a sense of awe and scale consistent with the game’s depiction of titanic creatures.
