Where it came from
Compulsion was released in February 2002 as part of the Torment expansion set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, Torment was the second set in the Odyssey block and was famously designed with a heavy emphasis on black mana, reflecting the dark, gothic themes of the expansion's storyline where the character Chainer falls into madness within the Otarian continent.
