Where it came from
Concerted Effort was released in 2005 as part of the Ravnica: City of Guilds expansion, the first set in the Ravnica block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set introduced a thematic focus on multicolored cards, organized into ten distinct guilds, each embodying specific philosophical and mechanical identities. The card itself was designed to represent the spirit of cooperation among these varied factions, serving as a rare white enchantment that grants shared keywords to creatures on the battlefield.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Greg Staples, whose work often features high-contrast lighting and dramatic, painterly textures. Staples sought to capture a sense of martial unity, depicting figures from different backgrounds joining forces under a single banner. Upon its release, the card was viewed by players as a specialized build-around enchantment, noted for its ability to unify complex creature decks through the passive distribution of static abilities.
