Provenance

Where it came from

The Concession Stand was released as part of the Unfinity set in 2022, representing Wizards of the Coast's fifth foray into the 'un-set' space—a series of Magic: The Gathering releases designed for humor and rule-breaking mechanics. Set within the whimsical, space-themed carnival of Myra the Magnificent's Intergalactic Astrotorium of Fun, the card leans into the set's retro-futuristic aesthetic. Mechanically, it functions as an artifact that generates creature tokens, capturing the bustling, absurd energy of an interstellar snack bar.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Sergey Glushakov, who utilized a vibrant, nostalgic sci-fi art style typical of the Unfinity aesthetic to bring the stall to life. The design process focused on blending traditional card game utility with the set's 'sticker' and 'attraction' mechanics, which were experimental features introduced to emphasize the carnival atmosphere. Upon its release, the card was received as a flavorful, albeit niche, utility piece that highlighted the creative freedom afforded to the design team when working outside the standard competitive framework.
